Clara Campoamor Lookout, Alozaina

Ver galería

Located on Rodahuevos Street, next to the Alozaina Town Hall and the Plaza de la Constitución, this lookout point offers spectacular views of Sierra Prieta (1,518 m) and the farmland surrounding the town; highlighting the contrast between natural areas and landscapes shaped by human hands over the centuries, with a predominance of rain-fed crops (grains and olive groves) and irrigated fields, notably the historic areas of Albar and Hoyo de los Peñones.

Its name pays tribute to the life and work of Carmen Eulalia Campoamor Rodríguez, known as Clara Campoamor (Madrid, 1888 – Lausanne, 1972), a lawyer, writer, politician, and advocate for Spanish women’s rights. During the Spanish Republic, she founded the Women’s Republican Union and was one of the leading advocates for women’s suffrage in Spain, which was enshrined in the Constitution adopted in late 1931 and exercised for the first time in the 1933 elections. Because of the civil war (1936–1939), she had to flee Spain and died in exile in Switzerland.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, celebrated every March 8 and commemorating women’s struggle for participation in society and their full development as individuals, on an equal footing with men, the El Albar Women’s Association, in collaboration with the City Council, pays a heartfelt tribute at the overlook that bears her name. On this very special day for society, we honor her courageous legacy, which serves as a source of inspiration and an example to guide us as we continue moving toward a more just and equitable future for everyone. The El Albar Women’s Association and the City Council also organize other parallel and complementary activities at this lookout point, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by this incomparable urban space.
