The route begins with a steady climb over small mountain passes until it reaches the Acebuche Pass, where a trail branches off toward Istán. The route continues uphill to a unique stand of Spanish firs, an iconic species of the Sierra de las Nieves.
From this point, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Sierra de las Nieves and the Río Verde Valley. The ascent ends at the Pozuelo Pass, where the descent begins. Shortly afterward, you’ll come to the Pozuelo Spring, a year-round spring frequented by wildlife, including mountain goats.
Further along, the trail reaches a fork where you take the path on the right, although it’s worth taking a short detour a few meters to the left to enjoy the views. The final stretch crosses a ravine and connects with the access road to El Juanar, next to the monolith marking the Senda de Pepe Lima trail. From there, it’s about 500 meters along the road back to the El Juanar shelter.
