Church of San Agustín, El Burgo

Ver galería

The Church of San Agustín is located on the street of the same name and was built in the early 1950s, following the terrible years of scarcity that followed the Guerra Civil. Although a local parish priest initiated its construction, the truth is that it was built thanks to some donations, but above all through the efforts of the families of Burque, since they were the ones who contributed most of the funds and provided the labor to erect it.

It has a single, elongated nave with a gabled roof and a bell tower at its base that is built into the nave itself. The exterior walls are decorated with faux ashlar masonry. Inside, it features a wooden ceiling inspired by Mudejar art and a high altar modeled after those of the Baroque period, notable for its four Solomonic columns.

Inside are the images of the saint—whose feast day is August 28—La Inmaculada Concepción, and Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, who is carried on a pilgrimage to the beautiful site of La Fuensanta in early August, where a lively and well-attended pilgrimage festival is held.
