El Burgo, the fortress on the banks of the Turón River

El Burgo welcomes us with a scene straight out of a postcard, featuring its Miraflores Castle, whose towers and walls blend beautifully with the village, beneath which the waters of the Turón River flow.

Its location within the Reserve, halfway between Ronda and the Turón Valley, gives it an authentic feel, a small-town charm, and direct contact with nature. Its traditional town center, of Al-Andalus origin, is very well preserved, and it’s a pleasure to wander through its streets and the ruins of its fortress, visiting landmarks such as the Church of La Encarnación, the Roman bridge, and the Acequia del Molino promenade.

In El Burgo, we can stroll along the Turón River, cool off in its waters, and swim in its reservoirs while taking in the serene natural surroundings. In the fall, the town hosts its historical reenactment, the Pasión Bandolera—the perfect time to explore the town and sample its unique mountain cuisine, with “sopa de los siete ramales” as its signature dish.
