Mirador El Tomillar, Serrato

Ver galería

It is located on the trail connecting Serrato and Cuevas del Becerro, at an elevation of 679 meters above sea level. It is part of along a historic route: the Cañada Real from Serrato to Cuevas del Becerro. Apparently, It owes its name to the abundance of thyme in the area.

Although this lookout point faces north, it offers a 360º panoramic view that allows visitors to appreciate the enormous diversity of landscapes found within the Sierra de las Nieves World Biosphere Reserve. From here, we can observe a gentler landscape with clay soils, revealing vast expanses where grain fields and olive groves thrive. These plots contrast with those of the villages nestled deeper in the mountains, which are notably smaller and laid out in terraces.

To the north and east, the landscape opens up to the gentle hills dominated by the Guadalteba River. To the south, the view rises as the terrain becomes more rugged, heralding the majesty of the Sierra de las Nieves.
