This is one of the most beautiful and interesting trails in the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, offering a glimpse of a wide variety of landscapes: slender Spanish firs, imposing gall oaks, scrub clinging to vertical cliffs…

The discovery of the ancient snow pits, the views from the Luis Ceballos or Caucón lookout—the trailhead—and the legendary Peña de los Enamorados—the trail’s end—are added attractions along this route. From this last point, you can connect to the Puerto Saucillo-Torrecilla trail.

Route itinerary

Along the trail, we can explore some of the most beautiful and breathtaking landscapes of the Sierra de las Nieves. Along the way, we’ll see three ecosystems of high ecological value: the Spanish stone pine forest, the high-mountain holm oak forest, and rock-dwelling vegetation—that is, flora found on rocky outcrops that has adapted to the harsh climate: cold, snow, and strong winds.

From the Ceballos lookout point, the starting point of the route, we’ll make our way up through the magnificent Lajares Spanish fir forest, passing through a series of changing ecosystems as we climb, until we reach the plateau of gall-oak groves and the vegetation typical of cold, high-mountain climates. Once you reach the Puerto Saucillo–Torrecilla trail, turn right to complete the ascent of the Peñón de los Enamorados, the highest point of the route, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the entire mountain range and much of western Andalusia.
