A short distance from Serrato lies the place known as Fuente del Cañamero, a bountiful spring that gushes from the depths of the earth. Its waters trace a river course of spectacular beauty along its entire banks, where we find several waterfalls and vegetation typical of river ecosystems.
Since medieval times, its waters have been used for irrigation. It was also used as a source of power to drive some mills, as noted in Pascual Madoz’s dictionary (19th century): “…and two flour mills, which are powered by water from the abundant spring at Cañamero.” Later, its waters were even used to generate electricity.
This small but swift-flowing stream joins the Guadalteba River, swelling its waters and bringing it to life.
