Parauta has been one of Spain’s Most Beautiful Towns since 2024, and its town layout is a legacy of the Al-Andalus period, with later additions of great interest such as the Arch on Calle Altillo and the 16th-century Church of the Immaculate Conception. The arch was built with solid bricks joined together using mortar made of lime, sand, and water; it provides access to the areas known as Barrio Alto and Plaza de la Constitución.
Umar ibn Hafsun was born in his hometown and became the leader of the rebellion (fitna) against the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba between the late 9th and early 10th centuries.
