The route starts in La Hoya, at the end of Río Street, and follows the Camino de la Cuesta through small fields and farmhouses. The path descends toward the far end of the Río Verde reservoir, with a notable stop at El Descansaero, which offers a beautiful view of the valley.
Upon reaching the reservoir, the path runs along the shore or follows a trail that follows the course of an old irrigation ditch. From here, the route climbs along a historic trail once used for logging, offering great views of the former valley now occupied by the reservoir.
The trail connects with the road from Istán to Marbella, next to the recreational area and the San Miguel chapel. From its lookout point, you can enjoy one of the best views of the reservoir. The final stretch follows a dirt road to the vicinity of the Hotel Altos de Istán and returns to the village.
The trail descends to the area around the reservoir, passing by El Descansaero, a small traditional lookout point with views of the Río Verde Valley. It then continues along old irrigation ditches and forest trails alongside the reservoir.
The trail climbs toward the Istán-Marbella road and reaches the San Miguel Chapel, where you can enjoy one of the best panoramic views of the reservoir before heading back to Istán.
