House Museum of Folk Arts, Tolox

The villages that make up the Sierra de las Nieves World Biosphere Reserve have always had—and continue to have—an unbreakable bond with the land and with traditional economic activities. This has led to the creation of several museum initiatives that have highlighted traditional rural culture, local ways of life, and aspects of their folklore.

The Tolox House Museum of Folk Arts is one of them. This museum is housed in an old residence where several rooms of a traditional home have been recreated, including: a bedroom with an old wrought-iron bed and other furnishings; a traditional kitchen; a living room; and a space dedicated to displaying numerous farming tools and implements. The items in this local museum were generously donated by the town’s residents themselves, which is why they hold great emotional and sentimental value. It is not just a museum; it is also a legacy of the town itself, where part of its identity resides, preserved for the future and intended for generations to come.

Perhaps its greatest treasure is its collection of photographs from the 1950s, a poignant visual record of the town that captures life as it once was and builds an emotional bridge to present-day generations.
