The view that Tolox offers us from the entrance to the village is one of the most spectacular and evocative in the Sierra de las Nieves. This typical white village welcomes us from a small hill where its castle once stood and where today the church and the village stand, bordered by the Caballos and Horcajos rivers. The imposing Sierra de las Nieves serves as its backdrop.
The abundance of its water led to the creation of numerous vegetable gardens, as well as a large number of water-powered flour mills that operated until just a few decades ago. Given its location, hiking and water-based activities are the most common pastimes. Its cuisine is extraordinary and closely tied to local produce. Notable among the local specialties is a traditional sweet called pan romano, as well as bread soups, such as sopa tolita, and goat stew.
Tolox is also known for its sulfur springs and, for the past century and a half, the popular Fuente Amargosa spa. Its most spectacular festival is the Cohetá, which takes place in August. During this event, thousands of fireworks are launched into the sky during the procession honoring its patron saint, San Roque.
