It is an example of Andalusian popular piety, a blend of artistic expression and architectural solutions. It is located on high ground, next to the Las Erillas neighborhood and at the exit from Monda toward the town of Coin. Its current appearance dates from the 18th century, and the structure consists of three sections raised on a plinth, with the central section standing out as the most significant; it features a large niche that defines the composition of the entire structure, topped by three pinnacles with the same projecting planes as the imposts and crowned by wrought-iron crosses.
It is the final station of the Way of the Cross (a religious practice that took root in the region in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, coinciding with the arrival of the Order of the Minims of St. Francis). Among the activities scheduled for Holy Week in the town, Holy Thursday night stands out, featuring the processional floats of the Crucified Christ and the Virgin Mary making their way to this site, which is one of Monda’s defining religious and cultural landmarks; a visit here is highly recommended for the excellent panoramic views it offers.
