The name Alozaina comes from al-husayna, which means “small castle” or “small fortress,” itself a diminutive form of hisn, “castle” or “fortress.” It was conquered by Castilian troops in 1484, during the War of Granada.
All that remains of its original structures are a few vestiges woven into the urban fabric (the remains of a wall and part of a tower from the Nasrid period); it was completely rebuilt in 1951, although the reconstruction does not reflect what its original appearance may have been. It is currently used as the María Sagredo Viewpoint Park.
