Before us is a sculptural composition by Salvador Calvo Marín, Hijo Predilecto de Istán, located in El Calvario. In this work, he has fused and combined materials that represent universal elements with others more closely tied to Andalusian and local traditions.
Water, which holds immense value in the Sierra de las Nieves World Biosphere Reserve and in Istán—where it is the most representative part of the local heritage—envelops a sphere of green marble, whose color evokes Andalusia and symbolizes continuous movement. The rusted metal refers to the passage of time, while the white walls are inspired by traditional Mediterranean architecture. The structure is situated within a pool, representing the cultural importance of water in this town.
