Ronda is a city with an admirable heritage and history. So much so that during the 18th and 19th centuries, it was a must-see destination for European and American Romantic travelers, who featured it in countless diaries, books, publications, and drawings, making it universally known. In fact, today it is a well-established tourist destination.
Its cultural heritage is as extensive as it is diverse. In its historic old town, visitors can explore numerous churches and temples, ancient and monumental houses, the remains of the Alcazaba and the Al-Andalus walls, its many museums, and one of its most prized gems: the Puente Nuevo, which spans the Guadalevín River, offering us unforgettable and indescribable views of the entire natural surroundings, and which serves as the city’s symbol.
In Ronda, you can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor and cultural activities, as well as a diverse range of traditional and modern cuisine, including oxtail and Ronda-style migas. Throughout the year, many celebrations take place in the famous city on the Tajo River. Perhaps the best known is the Corrida Goyesca, held in September, which has attracted such notable figures as Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway. But we must also mention the Ronda Romántica festival, which coincides with the Real Feria de Mayo, where attendees dress in 19th-century attire. It’s a true journey back in time.
